2012 MMVA Nominations Are Here

Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench is a singer, he's a songwriter, he's a pyrotechnic bra enthusiast -- and he's most definitely a MuchMusic Video Award nominee. The Vancouver-based band is the top contender going into the 2012 MMVAs, it was revealed during Tuesday's episode of New Music Live. The pop-rockers scored seven nods -- including one for Video of the Year. (And then there's the two extra nods Ramsay earned for his solo collaborations with other artists.) That all apparently came as a surprise to Ramsay. Before the nominations were rolled out, the singer appeared on NML via Skype to make his MMVAs prediction. His guess? He figured the band might get three nods. (This just in: Josh Ramsay is not a psychic.)

He is, however, several nods ahead of the extensive and eclectic pack. Drake and Hedley trail Marianas Trench, with five nominations each. Carly Rae Jepsen and Down With Webster are next, tied with four nods; City and Colour, Danny Fernandes, Justin Bieber and Simple Plan each come away with two. And yes, this year's MMVAs MCs, LMFAO, have been thrown a little recognition to make their TO trip worthwhile -- nods for International Video of the Year and UR Fave International Artist. Already RSVP'd MMVAs performer Katy Perry is also up for two (International Video of the Year, UR Fave International Artist).

The full nominees list can be found below -- and it's a mega-roster of single nominees that ranges from Adele to Victoria Duffield, alphabetically speaking. But only one of those newly minted honourees was on hand for the live announcement at Much -- and, conveniently, he already works in the building.

F*cked Up, the Toronto hardcore band fronted by Wedge host Damian Abraham is nominated for MuchLOUD Rock Video Of The Year. Abraham's honoured. "I never expected to be nominated for a video award," he told Dose.ca after the announcement. "It's larger than life," Abraham said of the MMVAs, "I can't think of another event in Toronto like this." And, best of all, he won't have to sneak in this time.

Even though he's a Much personality, Abraham didn't work last year's telecast -- so, as he explained, he just crashed the party.

"Last year, it's weird: I wasn't formally disinvited but certainly, I was never properly invited," he said. "So I snuck in with the MTV VJs, just walked in with the MTV guys and stuff." Once inside, they did what anyone drunk with 'looganism (and armed with a camera) would do: they asked celebrities for pictures. Among the targets: Drake ("we went up to Drake and you woulda thought we asked him for a kidney") and Dev. "No Lady Gaga, she wouldn't take a photo with me," said Abraham. "Justin Bieber, I wasn't allowed near."

Will all that change now that he's an official MMVA VIP? "I guess," he chuckled. "I bet they're still going to keep certain celebrities away from me."

"This is a spectacle," Abraham said of the MMVAs, "and now to be a legitimate part of the spectacle, in some minute, Loud category kind of way, I am very excited. … I guess it seems I have to free up my Sunday night."

The 2012 MMVAs are broadcast live on Much Sunday, June 17.
