Sky Blu's Favourite Song of 2012 is.
For LMFAO, 2012 was a year for the history books -- or at least whoever updates their Wikipedia page -- because after six years of unpologetically party-rocking, the duo announced this September that they were calling a time out.
That hasn't kept the Top 40 tag team from keeping the party going, however. Since announcing their hiatus, Redfoo and Sky Blu have continued to tour separately. Canada.com found Sky Blu at MuchMusic's Big Jingle earlier this December, for instance, right after he'd finished a 15-minute set heavily stacked with LMFAO's greatest hits -- tunes including Party Rock Anthem, Shots, Champagne Showers and LMFAO's last single together until they eventually come back together Voltron-style, Sorry for Party Rocking.
That electro hit might have been one of your favourite cuts of 2012, but what was Sky Blu's favourite song of the year?
He shared his answer with Canada.com:
Sky Blu: My favourite song right now is No Worries by Lil Wayne.
Canada.com: Why that song?
Sky Blu: 'Cause it makes me get ignorant and 'hood in the club when I'm drunk. I go crazy in the club. I do my stance, and rock back and forth like this the whole song.
Canada.com: How did you first hear it? Is there a story behind how you first heard it?
Sky Blu: Yeah, I heard it on the radio coming from the recording studio and I was like "Whoa! What is this song? This is different, man. Lil Wayne, damn, Wayne is doing his thing." And then I went to LIV [nightclub in Miami] that same night, and Wayne came and performed it out of the blue. And I was like, man, this song, I have a special kind of relationship with it because of the way I heard it and the way it went down.
Canada.com: I understand you're working on some music of your own, now that LMFAO is on a break. Will this song have any influence on what you're working on, or is there anything that's inspiring what we're going to hear from you in the upcoming year?
Sky Blu: Nothing that I listen to sounds like what I make because I lock myself in the studio with me and my friends and we really look at these records like our kids, in a way. We have a sensitive emotional attachment to these things. I look at it as art. So the record that I'm coming with, the album that I'm coming with is a piece of me to the world, and it's really means a lot. But it's party. It's all that stuff in there and then a little bit of something else.
My full record basically has a lot of influence of -- there's a lot of new music called Trap music, which is electro music mixed with hip hop dirty south music. There's a lot of that in my record. So a lot of experimental type vibes in there where you will hear a song and you'll be like "I've never heard a song sound like this ever."
