Game review: Sonic Jump
Sonic Jump is basically a Sonic-skinned version of the popular iOS title Doodle Jump, but this is one instance where the imitation might just improve on what came before. The game works like this: Sonic the Hedgehog jumps upward on a never-ending climb, with each of the game's small platforms acting like trampolines that launch him further up the screen.Of course, you'll have to contend with classic Sonic obstacles -- all while controlling the game by tilting the screen left and right. (If you're playing it in public, you might look a little ridiculous.)Graphically, it looks great and the game plays smoothly. Characters and environments retain the classic Sonic charm I enjoyed as a child but also have a new, cartoon-like aesthetic. While not that different from Doodle Jump, I think Sonic Jump is actually more fun to play than the game it's basically ripping off. This just goes to show that originality doesn't always make a game more fun. Sometimes adding to and perfecting a formula is all that really needs to be done. We're giving away Sonic Jump as part of the iTunes 12 Days of Christmas promotion with Dose.ca.
