Grimes, Monster Truck and The Pack A.D. are our fave Juno Awards breakthrough nominees
Vancouver native Grimes didn't really begin creating the electronic/industrial music she's now become famous for till university brought her to Montreal and led her to writing and releasing two albums in 2010. Her 2012 effort, Visions, was called one of the most impressive CDs of the year by none other than The New York Times. We recommend the very strange but wicked video for "Genesis".
Formed in '09 as a fun side project, it quickly became evident to these Ontario rockers that the whole Monster Truck thing was catching on. Playing the Fubar 2 premiere at TIFF, then opening up for Steel Panther, getting rave reviews about both their EPs and scoring a Juno nom really solidified that. Their debut full-length, Furiosity, is out May 28 and will only help catapult them further. "Seven Seas Blues" showcases what they're all about.
The Pack A.D.
Vancouver garage rock duo The Pack A.D. have been around since 2006 and have released four CDs to date, but they're really just starting to gain the appreciation they deserve - way overdue if you ask us! They've been compared to The White Stripes and The Black Keys and what we can say is, they're defs as awesome as those two bands... combined. See their "Positronic" video below and have your mind blown.
