Spice Girls, you still spice up our life! #ThrowbackThursday
Go on, say what you will, but we're not ashamed - we miss us some Spice Girls.
THE original girl group, the ones who taught us all about girl power and made us fall in love with everything British, The Spice Girls – aka – Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice and Posh Spice – formed back in 1994 and changed the music industry and pop culture forever.
Their debut single "Wannabe" stormed the airwaves in 1996 and made it to number one in more than 30 countries – talk about being a smash hit. The video that accompanied the song was also revolutionary in that it really told a story and showed off girl power at its finest with five fierce ladies having fun and not taking crap from anyone. Just take a look…
According to Rolling Stone journalist David Sinclair, "Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh and Sporty were the most widely recognized group of individuals since John, Paul, George, and Ringo” and we have to agree. And so do you if you really think about it. So, really, what’s not to love and miss?
And speaking of missing the Spice Girls, as soon as the ladies announced their 2007/2008 Return of the Spice Girls World Tour, a frenzy ensued as fans new and old clamored to score tickets. So much so that their first London date sold out in 38 seconds!
Their performance at the London Olympics’ closing ceremony last year also reminded audiences just why they had been so popular, making fans demand another world tour.
Unfortunately, although four of the gals love the idea of recording a farewell album and doing a goodbye tour, Victoria Beckham has said she is not interested and the other Spice Girls, in solidarity, then said they could never do anything so big without her.
…We hope Victoria will reconsider. We really, really hope. Because, well, we need SOMETHING to spice up our lives!
