Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey had the most hyped up vids of the week, but did they deliver? Meh...
Kendrick Lamar - Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe
After following all the hype and watching this video in full, we have to say - we don't get it. Well, the song we get - what an uplifting message it is, too! - but it's the video that's left us in a state of confusion and, frankly, we're not really sure we wanna keep watching it until we understand it because that might never happen.
Throughout the vid, Kendrick is either in a field or at an upside down funeral where everyone wears white and partaaaaays in the limo ride over to the burial. Oh, yeah, he also gets baptized in alcohol. And chills out with the priest near the coffin, just jokin' around and having a grand ol' time. Again, we don't get it.
It's kinda taking the whole religious theme and pushing it a liiiittle too far, making it trashy and offensive more than "cool". We say watch this one and then check out our story on David Bowie's religious "The Next Day" video to see how much better this theme could've been explored.
Sorry, Kendrick, but ya kinda killed OUR vibe with this one.
Lana Del Rey - Young and Beautiful
Oops, sorry, Miss Lana Del Rey sung us to sleep with her heavenly voice and boring-as-the-most-boring-thing-you-can-imagine video.
We adore Lana and wish we were exaggerating but nope, it's true, her latest video is a snooze fest. Which is rather unfortunate considering it's for a song off the Great Gatsby soundtrack so there really were so many great things that could have been done with it. Guess no one wanted to spend any dough on the music video when the movie was so lavish... that's the only explanation we can come up with.
The song is AMAZING but the visuals that accompany it are nowhere near as grand. We've got close-up Lana. Lana walking down a shadowy hallway. Lana blurred in the distance. Shadows of a big band. And as much as we think the songstress is a beauty and we could look at her all day, we would like to see her doing something, anything, that would spark our interest.
Someone really dropped the ball here... check it!
