Jake Gyllenhaal and Terrence Howard face off in this week’s ACTOR SMACKDOWN
Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, so it’s safe to say that acting is in his blood. Working since the age of 10, Jake’s first big break came in 1999 when he scored the lead role in October Sky. Since then, he’s starred in hits like Donnie Darko, The Good Girl, The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and many more.

Terrence Dashon Howard is most widely known as an actor, but is also a talented singer. His first noteworthy role came in 1995 thanks to Mr. Holland's Opus and the ones that followed in films like Ray, Hustle & Flow, Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Iron Man really solidified him in the mainstream. Howard’s debut record, Shine Through It, came out in September 2008. Point: Gyllenhaal

Gyllenhaal won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his critically acclaimed role in Brokeback Mountain.

Howard was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 2005’s Hustle & Flow. He also performed all the songs in that movie and "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp” actually won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Point: Howard

As famous as he is for his acting, Gyllenhaal’s private life has also managed to land him all kinds of press coverage and media attention. He dated actress Kirsten Dunst for almost two years before moving on to other big celebs, like Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift.

Howard has a history of violence and numerous charges to his name. He was arrested in 2001 after attacking his estranged wife, reportedly punching her in the face. Howard was also arrested for assaulting a Continental Airlines flight attendant and reportedly punched a woman in a Pennsylvania diner in 2005. In August 2013, Howard's second ex-wife got a restraining order against him after claiming he gave her a black eye. Point: Gyllenhaal

Verdict: Gyllenhaal, hands down.
