Missy Elliott's evolution is our #ThrowbackThursday hot topic

No matter what happens or what you say, Melissa Arnette "Missy" Elliott will always be No. 1 in our hearts. *cue melancholic violin music*

Although she's been keeping things low-key lately, contributing her talent and time to the work of other artists - including Beyoncé's upcoming fifth album, which makes us really happy - her catalogue is so fierce, we can deal with listening to oldies for years to come.

A rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and actress, Missy did it all and always with class. Selling over 30 million records in the US and taking home five Grammy Awards, she really solidified herself in music history, as the only female rapper to ever release six platinum albums. 2002’s Under Construction even went double platinum. BAM!

Now, in an ode to the queen, let's take a look back at some of Missy’s greatest singles (and videos):

"Get Ur Freak On": Written and produced by Missy and Timbaland, this track is off her third studio album, 2011’s Miss E... So Addictive.

"Work It": Another collabo between her and Timbaland, this single was off Missy's fourth album, 2002’s Under Construction.

“Lose Control": Featuring Ciara and Fatman Scoop, this song comes courtesy of Missy’s sixth studio album, 2005’s The Cookbook.
