8-year-old Tyler Doohan who died rescuing his family from fire gets firefighter funeral

Tyler Doohan, the brave, heroic eight-year-old boy who helped rescue six family members from a fire, but died while trying to bring his grandfather to safety, will get a firefighter funeral today.

According to news reports, the ceremony will be worthy of a fallen firefighter and at the end of the service, the local fire chief will name Tyler an honorary firefighter. He will also gift the boy's family with a fire helmet inscribed with Tyler’s name.

Firefighters from a number of fire departments will be present in “formal 'Class A' dress uniforms with bagpipers playing - the hallmarks of a traditional firefighter's funeral,” reports CNN.

Tyler was staying with relatives in their trailer home on January 19 when he noticed a fire start in the wee hours of the morning. He helped wake six people in the trailer and get them out safely, but when he rushed back in to help his disabled grandfather, he was unable to make it out alive. The two were found together in the back room of the trailer.

May Tyler rest in peace. He is a true hero if we ever did hear of one.
