After months of receiving hardly any media coverage (sarcasm!), Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart made their mark on Twitter yesterday, delighting the 167,000 followers of the official Twilight Twitter page.

Pattinson was the first to express himself in 140 characters or less, expressing his gratitude to fans for New Moon’s incredible $140 million opening weekend.

"Thank you for making NEW MOON #1,” Pattinson wrote. “It's very exciting to be a part of something embraced by so many people. I hope you are looking forward to ECLIPSE as much as I am."

We’re already talking about Eclipse?! We’ve barely recovered from New Moon!

Stewart was up next, proving that she’s a million times less awkward when she has time to think about what to say.

"You all have proven you're the most amazing fans in the world once again," the 19-year-old wrote, adding: "Yes, I twittered. Or twitted..tweeted? I dunno, but thank you sooo much anyway..!"

OK, still a bit awkward, but a vast improvement.

The young stars are still a ways off from starting up their own Twitter accounts, but we prefer to think that’s because they’re too busy making out with each other all the time.
