No More Rain-Soaked Kisses in Ryan and Rachel's Future

October 18, 2007

Sorry, McGosling fans, but the dream is finally over. Ryan Gosling has confirmed his split from longtime sweetheart Rachel McAdams in a new interview.

Though rumours of a breakup have been swirling for months, both Canuck cuties have remained tediously tight-lipped about their relationship status. But in the new issue of GQ, coverboy Gosling comes clean about the split -- and breaks millions of tweens' hearts in the process.

"The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin' and we called it a draw," Gosling says of the split, admitting the relationship has been over for a few months.

But as tough as the breakup has been for the London, Ont.-born actors, it's been even harder for die-hard fans of weepy hit The Notebook, in which the pair played star-crossed lovers.

"Women are mad at me," Gosling tells GQ. "A girl came up to me on the street and she almost smacked me. Like, 'How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?' I feel like I want to give people hugs, they seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we're consoling everybody else."

Despite the split, Gosling still gushes about his former leading lady.

"I mean, God bless The Notebook," the 26-year-old says. "It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that."
