It looks like not all celebrities are let off the hook for their crimes.
Lane Garrison, star of Prison Break, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 months in a state prison for a drinking and driving accident that resulted in the death of high school student Vahagn Setian last December, reports E! News
Garrison was found to have cocaine and more than twice the legal blood alcohol level in his system at the time of the crash, which also injured two 15-year old girls, one critically, reports People.
Dressed in a suit, Garrison expressed remorse in court as he apologized to the family of the deceased.
"I just want to say how sorry I am to the Setian family. I am sickened by my behavior on that night. My thoughts keep coming back to that night," he told the court, reports E! News.
Yesterday (Oct.30), friends of Setian presented the judge with 3,600 signatures, each demanding Garrison receive the full sentence of six years and eight months for his crime, reports TMZ.
"To do anything else sends a terrible message to young people, the community and others who drink and drink," said a close friend of the deceased in a statement to the media.
In May, Garrison plead guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence before he was ordered to undergo a 90-day diagnostic stay at the California Institute for Men in Chino, reports E! News.
While Garrison's lawyers pushed for their client to be released on probation, Superior Court Judeg Elden S. Fox imposed a much stricter sentence. Aside from prison time, Garrison must pay nearly $300,000 to the Setian family and the two girls injured in the crash.
Garrison will receive credit for the 91 days he has already served.
