Cattrall Confirms Sex and the City 2, Giving Millions of Women an Excuse to Get Dressed Up and Wasted

November 6, 2008

Proving that the world can never have too many shopping montages, Kim Cattrall has confirmed there will be a sequel to the Sex and the City Movie.

Cattrall (who plays Samantha Jones) spilled the news while being interviewed by Spice Girl Melanie Brown on a British chat show. When Brown asked Cattrall flat-out whether we could look forward to a Sex 2, Cattrall answered: "Yes, there will be a sequel." The world then exploded in a cloud of squeals, sparkles and four-inch stiletto stomps due to the overwhelming levels of trademarked Girl Power contained in one room.

Given the first Sex and The City movie grossed around $153 million U.S., we're hardly surprised that Carrie Bradshaw and pals will be returning to the big screen so soon. Still, the news is surely enough to have wannabe Carries, Mirandas, Charlottes and Samanthas already going into credit debt picking out their outfits for the next SATC-themed girls' night out. Cocktail bars and shoe retailers everywhere thank you, Ms. Cattrall.

Before production started on the first SATC flick, Cattrall infamously refused to participate because of salary issues. According to past reports, Sarah Jessica Parker was initially offered a much higher pay-day than her onscreen BFFs, and Cattrall held out until everyone was treated more equitably.

"The offer [for the film] just wasn't acceptable. I felt we should all make lots of money -- not just one of us," Cattrall told the Daily Mail at the time.

Sarah Jessica Parker told Us Weekly earlier this fall that the only thing stopping them from doing a sequel was a decent script (not that it stopped them last time. We're still recovering from all the bad "Louise" Vuitton puns).

"It's all about the story," said SJP. "If we can't tell a story that's really worthy of an audience, then we won't do it."

As for what SATC: The Sag-enning (our working title) would bring for the show's cast of broad female stereotypes characters, the stars offered their suggestions back in September.

Said Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda: "I would love to see her and Carrie and Charlotte and Samantha all go off on some wild mad cap adventure somewhere."

For her sex-pot alter ego, Samantha, Cattrall told Us Weekly: "The sky is the limit. I love Samantha single -- she has way too much fun."
