Salma Hayek Calls off Engagement to French Billionaire. Um, Can We Have Him?

July 18, 2008

Salma Hayek recently went on Oprah and said she didn't feel the need to marry her billionaire baby daddy. Let's hope she meant it.

The Mexican actress and her French boyfriend, Francois-Henri Pinault, have called off their engagement, reports USA Today.

"We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further comment," Hayek's rep said in a statement.

Hayek met Pinault -- the CEO of PPR, which owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga – in Venice in 2006. The couple welcomed daughter Valentina Paloma in September.

In April, Hayek told Oprah "After I got pregnant, I don't know why, but the [ceremony] part of it is not necessary because we have such a huge commitment for each other. I don't know that we have to go through the rituals...[Men] have to work every day to continue to keep you wanting to marry them. They have to work at it a little bit, so it's sort of sexy. I know people, once they get married, something happens, and I don't know what it is, but something happens, and then they are not as in love with each other."
