Coop has copped a deal. Mischa Barton, who played the similarly screwed up Marissa Cooper on The OC, pled no contest to her DUI charges in a Beverly Hills courthouse on Thursday.
Barton’s lawyers hammered out the deal earlier this week, in response to the DUI charges she racked up in the early morning hours of December 27, 2007. As part of her plea bargain, Barton avoids jail time and does not have to face charges of marijuana possession. She was sentenced to pay nearly $2,000 US in fines, put on three years probation, and ordered to complete a three-month alcohol education class by September 17, reports TMZ. (We’re not really sure what an “alcohol education class" entails, but if they teach how to mix the perfect mojito, sign us up!)
Barton’s attorneys entered the plea on her behalf since the 22-year-old actress did not make an appearance at the hearing. She was probably too busy engaging in some hardcore retail therapy, hoping to charge away the memories of spending the past few months with lawyers who insisted on throwing around nonsensical words like “responsibility” and “consequences.”
