Arrested Development Fans Just Blue Themselves; Michael Cera Joins Movie

February 27, 2009

Good news, Arrested Development fans: the Bluth family reunion is finally complete. Michael Cera, the lone holdout of the original TV show's cast, has reportedly signed on to star in the upcoming film adaptation.

The Brampton, Ont.-born actor will reprise his role as the awkward, banana-selling, prison-fearing, cousin-loving George Michael Bluth, reports E! News.

While costars Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross signed on early, Cera put AD fans through months of agonizing uncertainty with his public reluctance to get onboard. When asked about the film's prospects, he told the National Post: "I don't think I would want to see a movie of the series if I was a fan, anyway. And I don't really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD."

As the film began to take shape, Cera continued to play coy, telling MTV News last month that he wouldn't join the cast until he'd seen a script, and that the film was "more hypothetical than people think."

But now that Cera has finally hopped on the Bluth's stair car, the film adaptation is quickly coming together. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz is reportedly writing the film, and production could begin as early as this fall. As producer Ron Howard told Ryan Seacrest at Sunday night's Oscars: "It's looking very much like we're going to make [the movie], but we've now been asked to stop offering any details. It's cloaked in a little mystery, but it's looking good."

Thank goodness this movie is finally on track! We were getting so depressed about the prospect of Cera derailing the flick, we were considering joining the Blue Man Group. (That's a support group for people feeling blue, right?)
