No Surprises Here: Paula Abdul Goes on Talk Shows, Says Some Crazy Shit

December 9, 2008

Paula Abdul is in the midst of a publicity tour, offering audiences a brand new buffet of batshit-crazy comments. Abdul's bizarre talk show appearances yesterday to promote her new Forever Your Girl accessories line ranged from hyperactive babblings on Good Morning America to glassy-eyed ramblings on The View, where she announced that the obsessed fan who recently killed herself outside Abdul's house had been stalking her for 17 years.

But View host Barbara Walters revealed on today's show that Abdul saved the big guns for an interview on Walters' satellite radio program last night. According to Walters, the American Idol judge unleashed a torrent of conspiracy theories and accusations, including her belief that the Paula Goodspeed suicide debacle was "an attempt by Fox Broadcasting, the producers of American Idol and Simon Cowell to ruin her career."

"She said she did not want this woman trying out [for Idol], she said they had restraining orders at times, she said she knew this woman was stalking her," Walters recounted. "She said 'I asked [producers] not to put her on, it made me terribly nervous, but she showed up and I was pre-warned by the producers, 'Wait 'till you see this next girl; oh my god, she's crazy about you.' And against my wishes, they kept allowing her to try out.'"

According to Walters, Abdul then went on to blame her frequently bizarre Idol behaviour on fellow judge Cowell. "Part of it is what people don't realize is that Simon is in my ear while I'm talking," Walters quotes Abdul as saying. "He's saying crazy things while I'm trying to formulate something with grace and dignity. He's saying it over and over again and it throws me and I start to laugh, and then Ryan says 'what are you laughing at?'... Believe me, I've lost a lot of money, I've lost endorsements, and all Simon had to do is retract what he said, but he didn't."

Abdul's contract with the Fox reality hit is reportedly up at the end of this season. Either she's truly done with the show and is burning every bridge on her way out, or this is the weirdest contract negotiation tactic Hollywood has ever seen.
