Police, Paparazzi, Pandemonium: Another Quiet Monday Night for Britney

January 31, 2008

Britney Spears' "Me Against the Sanity" tour continues, with the toxic train wreck experiencing yet another major meltdown in front of the paparazzi last night (Jan. 28).

Upon arriving home around 6 p.m. from their latest Starbucks visit/gas station pit-stop/drive-through run, a visibly upset Spears began arguing with manager/hanger-on Sam Lutfi (or perhaps it was just the voices in her head) and jumped out of her white Mercedes near her gated community's guard station, reports People. Clutching her Yorkie dog, the blubbering mess plopped down on a curb and cried while continuing to chat with the throng of paparazzi who were happily snapping away.

She then asked photographer Filipe Teixeira to drive her to nearby Ralph's supermarket before inviting him and another paparazzo into her house. Around this time, on-again/off-again boytoy, Adnan Ghalib, showed up at her gate, but was refused entry, reports People. Ghalib blamed the shut-out on Lutfi and began showing his fellow photogs text messages the singer's manager allegedly sent him, in which he called Ghalib a "manic trigger" for Spears and warned that their relationship "will kill her."

That's when things really got interesting. LAPD arrived on the scene, reportedly responding to a call from the gated community's security team regarding the trespassing paparazzi.

"Spears drove through the gates and paparazzi followed her car on foot," LAPD Officer Mike Lopez tells People. "By the time officers arrived, the paparazzi were off the property, but officers handed out citations for those who were illegally parked."

Adding to the maniacal melee were Spears' estranged parents, who arrived at her estate around 9 p.m. A source tells E! News her folks -- who had flown in from Kentwood, La. to visit K-Fed and their grandchildren -- had heard about the fight with Lutfi and wanted to check on her. But the singer seemingly had no interest in a long-overdue family reunion, bolting from the house and hopping in a car with Ghalib.

The pair returned to Spears' home around 11 p.m., and the singer resurfaced around 1:30 a.m., when her mother and Lutfi drove her to Longs drugstore nearby. Let's hope they were stocking up on tranquilizers (for Spears) and extra-strength Advil (for us).
