Those assault charges against Kiefer Sutherland could go away as swiftly as a headbutt to the schnoz. Sutherland and fashion designer Jack McCollough have come to an understanding over the afterparty incident wherein Sutherland allegedly Jack Bauered McCollough's face. The pair released a joint statement to the Associated Press expressing that they are now making nice.
"I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured," said Sutherland.
As for McCollough, he accepted Sutherland's apology, saying: "I appreciate Mr. Sutherland's statement and wish him well."
In the days following the May 4 incident, Sutherland was charged with misdemeanor assault. And while charges have yet to be officially dropped, multiple outlets speculate that all signs point towards Sutherland being in the clear.
The 24 star is expected in court June 22, but according to TMZ, now that McCollough and Sutherland have come to an understanding, the designer is no longer a "complaining witness." As such, prosecutors no longer have much of a case against Sutherland. It's expected that prosecutors will ask for the case to be dropped.
That's good news for Sutherland, and for 24 fans. According to past reports, the eighth season of the Fox drama is reportedly scheduled to begin production in the coming weeks. The charges against Sutherland put the actor in danger of violating the terms of his probation. In 2007, Sutherland was convicted for DUI and spent 48 days in jail.
