Mischa Barton Living the Unemployed Life

October 20, 2009

Sure, her show The Beautiful Life is as dead as Marissa Cooper, but that won't keep Mischa Barton down. Because hey, TV isn't over Mischa Barton; it's Mischa Barton who's totally over TV.

"I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach," Barton told People magazine while doing what she does best -- wearing pretty dresses and partying in them at a Whitney Museum Gala in New York City on Monday night.

"That whole world of network television probably isn't, for me, a good idea now," said Barton in a moment of clarity.

(Just for a little context, her CW show The Beautiful Life was cancelled after a mere two episodes.)

So, yo Meesh, what's the alternative?

"I need to start reading for more serious roles," she said. (Or, at the very least, not taking parts in movies about t.A.T.u.)

"It's too early to tell yet," she said. "I'm passing on all the [early] offers, because that's not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting things and look for something that's going to be interesting for me ... as a role."

So, a whole lot of nothing then? How does she fill her days? The same way other unemployed people do -- except she gets to wear Versace while sleeping 'til noon.

"Reading scripts and enjoying living in New York," she told the mag. "Now that I'm not doing the TV show, I've got lots of time to work out."
