Kiefer Sutherland Didn’t Like Jail So Much

November 18, 2008

Kiefer Sutherland has a news flash for everyone: Jail friggin’ sucks!

In an upcoming interview with Men’s Vogue (there’s a men’s one?), Sutherland opens up about his recently completed seven-week DUI prison sentence.

“There's no smoking," the 24 star says. "The lights never go out, 24/7. You can't cover anything. You can't even put your head under a blanket. All the cells have cameras in them."

Sutherland, a smoker, was forced to quit but found he had Jack Bauer-like willpower when it came to kicking the habit – at least until he got out. "My drinking was not a daily thing, so it wasn't an issue. And, oddly enough, neither was the smoking," he tells Men’s Vogue. "I was very glad to know that I could quit. And one day soon I will."

On top of all that, Sutherland didn’t get a cushy, private cell, either. "I was told, you know, 'You'll have your own cell.' But I didn't for the first two or three weeks; I had a cellmate," he says. "He got out – but not for long. He came back in pretty quick."

The interview appears in the December/January issue of Men’s Vogue on newsstands Nov. 25.
