Steven Tyler Couldn’t Walk This Way; Blames Rehab on Foot

May 30, 2008

The latest Hollywood trend: going to rehab for problems other than drugs and alcohol abuse. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler claims his recent rehab stint had nothing to do with his old vices, instead blaming it on foot surgery.

“The foot repair pain was intense, greater than I’d anticipated. The months of rehabilitative care and painful strain of physical therapy were traumatic,” the 60-year-old rocker said in a statement Thursday. “I really needed a safe environment to recuperate where I could shut off my phone and get back on my feet.”

This news follows reports that Eva Mendes may have checked into Utah’s Cirque Lodge Treatment Centre in January to research a role in an upcoming movie in which she’ll play a Spanish drug lord. Oh yeah, and it also follows Kirsten Dunst’s declaration to E! News that her latest rehab visit was due to depression, not alcohol abuse. What’s next? Mick Jagger going to rehab after a hip replacement? Hilary Duff checking into Promises to write edgier lyrics for her upcoming album? We’re thinking of signing up just to network.

People magazine reports Tyler’s long-time foot injuries were brought on by “his trademark athletic performance onstage.” (Not exactly how we’d phrase it, but OK.) Tyler promises this won’t slow down the band; Aerosmith is planning a new album and then another tour.
