In news that will probably keep Mel C from backflipping across stages for nine months or so, the sportiest of the Spice Girls has announced via her official website that she's expecting a baby. The lucky dad is her boyfriend of six years, property developer Thomas Starr.
"Some happy news. I can now announce that Tom and I are expecting a baby and we're very happy," Mel C blogged early Friday.
Congratulations are in order -- but given the usual celebrity pregnancy headlines, we're a little underwhelmed. No twins? Triplets? No surrogate baby-mama? Here's hoping she’s not planning on selling the baby pics, because the competition these days is fierce.
The typically buff pop star has reportedly been opting for sack dresses instead of track suits lately -- prompting weeks of speculation among fans that Mel C was indeed joining the rest of the Spice Girls in the Mama Club.
The pop star, who did a cross-country Canadian tour this May, says she plans to take a bit of maternity leave from the road, but isn't giving up on her music.
"I will be taking it easy but am also excited to start writing for the fifth [solo] album," she writes. "I'll need some time off to be a mum but, before you know it, we'll be back."
