Sarah Jessica Parker Welcomes Her New Favourite Accessories: Twins

June 23, 2009

Do jam-hands and spit-up go better with the Westwood or the Balenciaga? Such are the questions Sarah Jessica Parker may be pondering today, as the actress and her husband Matthew Broderick welcomed twin girls last night, birthed by a surrogate mother in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

According to a local CBS affiliate, SJP's baby-basket for hire delivered the twins at approximately 9 p.m. Monday night at East Ohio Regional Hospital. The station's sources say both Parker and Broderick were at the hospital for the birth.

The couple named their new daughters Marion Loretta Elwell (who weighed in at 5 lbs., 11 oz), and Tabitha Hodge Broderick (who weighed in at weighed 6 lbs).

"The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon," the couple say in a statement, reports People magazine, adding "Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker's side."

Since announcing they were expecting twins earlier this spring, the couple's surrogate mother became a target for tabloid drama. Days ago, two Ohio police chiefs were arrested for alleged conspiracy to break into the surrogate's home. According to allegations, the pair was planning to take photos to sell to the tabloids. Photos of a plaster of paris mould of the lady's baby bump. No, really.

The arrival of the twins makes three for Parker and Broderick, who have a six-year-old son, James Wilkie.
