Are Jon Gosselin and his T-Shirts Getting Their Own Show?

August 19, 2009

How we long for the Jon Gosselin of early 2009, who claimed to be fed up with fame and wanted a life out of the spotlight (and off our television screens). But in the face of reported financial problems, TMZ reports that the Ed Hardy shill is in negotiations to star on yet another reality show. Oh, happy day.

According to TMZ, Gosselin is in talks to appear on a show called Divorced Dad's Club (yes, there's an apostrophe, which enrages our inner grammar nerd). The series would follow the lives of several famous divorced dads – and Gosselin would clearly be a major coup for the show, which has yet to find a network.

Even though Gosselin is still under contract for Jon & Kate Plus 8 (the high-rated TLC show is set to produce 40 episodes this season), there are whispers that network execs are unhappy with his recent behaviour and may want him off the show. Sources told TMZ that TLC is angry about Gosselin's bar-hopping, women-seducing habits, which they see as a violation of the "morals clause" of his contract.

So if Gosselin is so unhappy being a reality TV star, why is he looking for another show? One word: money. The cash earned from the last season of Jon & Kate Plus 8 went into a joint account, and Gosselin has reportedly spent his cut already (on ugly T-shirts and a mid-life crisis sports car, we're guessing). Even worse for him, a judge reportedly gave Kate Gosselin control of the money earned from the current season and Jon only as access to the account for basic necessities.

Add all that up, and Gosselin has apparently decided that his privacy and dignity aren't so important after all – bring on the cameras! Is it too late to cancel our cable subscription?
