Shia LaBeouf Leaves Police Station; Enters Our Celeb DUI Gallery

July 28, 2008

It seems Shia LaBeouf's good luck isn't just limited to his box office performance. The Indiana Jones star escaped serious injuries -- and even more serious felony charges -- following his DUI arrest this weekend.

Hollywood's favourite drugstore cowboy is recovering from hand surgery after colliding with another vehicle and flipping his pickup truck at a West Hollywood intersection around 3 a.m. Sunday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Wolf said, reports the Associated Press. LaBeouf's female passenger and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured.

"Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008," his rep said in a statement issued Sunday evening. "Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."

On Monday afternoon, LaBeouf's mother, Shayna, told E! News: ""I'm at the hospital right now, he's doing fine."

The 22-year-old actor -- who was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for injuries he sustained to his left hand, head and knee -- was booked and released for misdemeanor DUI.

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said.

This isn't the actor's first tussle with the law. Last fall he was arrested at a Chicago Walgreens drugstore for criminal trespassing, and in February a bench warrant was briefly issued for his arrest after he and his lawyer failed to show up for a court appearance regarding a ticket for illegal smoking.

This latest incident officially inducts LaBeouf into our "Hollywood Soundbites That Come Back to Bite You in the Ass" Hall of Fame. While promoting Transformers, the youngster promised to avoid the usual pitfalls of Young Hollywood, telling Entertainment Weekly: "My life's got to be flawless. It's pretty simple when you think about it: Just don't fuck up... Someone like Lindsay Lohan's personality is [more] famous than her performance. You've got to maintain some mystery. Part of me wants to go out and see my peers. But if I go to a club and get my picture in the press, then I am that young Hollywood asshole. That would shatter my world."

Consider your world shattered, Mutt Williams.
