She's come a long way, baby. After an incredibly difficult year and a half filled with fender benders, custody trials and various mental breakdowns, Britney Spears is on the verge of another comeback – and it's gonna stick this time, she swears!
As proof that she really means business, the 26-year-old pop star agreed to be followed by documentary filmmaker Phil Griffin for a 90-minute MTV special titled Britney: For the Record. The documentary features in-depth interviews with Spears about her struggles over the past year and also chronicles the past several months of her life, from dance rehearsals to recording her new album, Circus. (Oh, and the fact that the special airs Nov. 30, a mere two days shy of the release of Circus? Coincidence. Pure, convenient coincidence.)
In a clip released by MTV today, Spears shows just how much progress she's made in the past few months by expressing thoughts and feelings that are not only not insane but also kind of coherent.
"I've been through a lot, and there's a lot people don't know. Sometimes it can get lonely 'cause you don't open the gate," she says. "I'm stuck in this place, and I just cope every day."
Why, look at her use of pronouns, verbs and conjugation! We couldn't be prouder of Brit-Brit. Later in the clip, she even shows a glimmer of self-awareness.
"I sit there and I look back. I'm a smart person, what the hell was I thinking?" she adds.
Brava! Of course, Spears is still under the impression that she's smart, so clearly she has a ways to go before total enlightenment, but still! Good effort, kiddo!
