Battle of the Cross-Generational Stars Takes 2: Etta James vs. Beyonce

February 5, 2009

Beyonce, your fancy robot arm can't save you now. Etta James is on the warpath.

Yes, in a generation-spanning catfight even more WTF-worthy than yesterday's Duff vs. Dunaway throwdown, 71-year-old singing legend Etta James warned the 27-year-old pop star that "she's gonna get her ass whipped."

So why should B's security detail be putting her bootylicious rear on high-surveillance? Turns out James was miffed to see Beyonce break out her signature song "At Last" at the Inaugural Ball -- and her wrath isn't merely being directed at some mere singer/actress.

"You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears?" James asked the audience at a recent show in Seattle. "Wait a minute, he ain't my president, he might be yours, he ain't my president.”

"You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song -- she's gonna get her ass whipped," said James to loud applause. "The great Beyonce...I can't stand Beyonce. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day...singing my song that I've been singing forever."

Somebody has told James that B was playing her, and not Chuck Berry, in Cadillac Records, right?

While we're admittedly loving the fact that James has gone and dropped this truth-bomb, her son Donto has made some comments to help quell the would-be feud. As he told the New York Daily News, his mother previously said she though Beyonce's rendition of "At Last" "was great."

"She's gotten emotional, just like everybody else. ...She was honoured."
