Just when we were convinced the couple who treats themselves to street festival pyrogies together, stays together, David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have announced their separation.
The pair has weathered their share of scandalous headlines these past few months, what with Duchovny's stint in sex rehab and, uh, Ghost Town's "meh" reviews. But, according to their rep, Duchovny and Leoni have been apart through all of it.
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months," said the couple's rep in a statement.
While Duchovny's "method acting" would be the most tell-tale reason for the split, those rascals at the British tabloids are putting another idea out into the universe: that Billy Bob Thornton once again worked his inexplicable magic (remember Angelina Jolie?) on Leoni.
Leoni and Thornton have been working together on upcoming comedy Manure (surely the film that bad headline writers have been waiting for since they first discovered poo jokes). Says the Daily Mirror, Thornton had been sending "explicit text messages" to Leoni. When Duchovny discovered the notes, he called it quits. (Or maybe he immediately felt the urge to call his sponsor. Either/or.)
According to their rep, Duchovny and Leoni kept their long separation private "for the sake of their children."
The couple, who married in 1997, has two kids: a nine-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.
Leoni is reportedly living with their children in New York City. As her rep told the paper, she did not want to break the news of the split "until after David had received treatment for his problems."
