Angelina Jolie Gives Birth to Twins -- a Boy and a Girl

July 13, 2008

Did you feel it? Did you feel the slight seismic shift as the Earth gave a small shudder of delight and welcomed the second coming of celebrity babies? Angelina Jolie gave birth to her long-awaited, much-anticipated twins on Saturday -- a boy and a girl.

Daughter Vivienne Marcheline, (named after Jolie's mother and weighing 5 lbs), and son Knox Leon, (weighing 5.03 lbs), were delivered via c-section at the Lenval hospital in Nice, France in which the actress had been hibernating, according to Jolie's doctor, Michel Sussmann.

"The parents and the babies are in excellent health. Everything is fine," Sussmann told Reuters. He said the c-section had been planned for a long time but the date was brought forward "for medical reasons."

Sussmann told reporters outside the hospital on Sunday that Brad Pitt was at Jolie's side during the delivery and even cut the babies' umbilical cords, reports People.  "It was an epidural, so [Angelina] was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy. [Brad] was ... perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional," said Sussmann.

Newspaper Nice Matin, which broke news of the birth on Sunday, reported that the couple had sold exclusive rights to the first photographs of the twins to an unnamed U.S. magazine (People, anyone?) for a ridiculous $11 million US.  The couple will most likely give the money to charity.

The twins join Brangelina’s growing brood, which already consists of Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

With the twins' arrival, we're expecting an announcement about the end of world hunger and peace in the Middle East any day now.
