Emma Watson: 'At Least I'm Wearing Underwear'

July 9, 2009

For any other young starlet -- say, a Britney or a Lady Gaga -- turning up in panties (or less) on the red carpet is no big thing. But since Emma Watson's billowy vintage gown proved to be well-ventilated in all the wrong places (i.e. the junk) at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, everyone's been talking about it.

The young actress, however, wasn't too embarrassed to address her public pantsing on the Late Show with David Letterman last night.

"Tell us what's going on here," Letterman deadpanned while showing the audience a now infamous snapshot of Watson exposing her beige knickers.

"This was a small wardrobe malfunction that happens," said Watson with a nervous giggle.

"I don't actually remember it happening. At least I'm wearing underwear," she went on, getting a roar of laughter from the live audience.

"I'm still learning, I'm still learning!"

Do they offer university level courses in preventative pantsing techniques these days? Watson, 19, confirmed she plans to study in the States come the fall while on Letterman's show, saying she intends on doing a liberal arts degree. Entertainment Weekly recently reported that she's enrolled at Columbia University -- where we expect she won't be the only undergrad ever caught with their pants down.
