The parents at posh, Upper East Side, French school Lycee Francais de New York may put on the airs of snobby elitists, but it turns out they're as star-struck as the rest of us. When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt drop son Maddox off at school, the other privileged parents are all over the power couple like Rosie O'Donnell on an all-you-can-eat ribs buffet.
The parents have been chided for their fawning fame worship by the school's director of operations, Dan Cooke, who sent home a letter on Sept. 14, reports the New York Observer.
"I'm sure you are aware the school has received much media attention recently during the arrival and dismissal times because of the presence of celebrities Ms. Angelina Jolie and/or Mr. Brad Pitt," the letter states. "Regretfully, I have seen some parents taking pictures, asking for autographs, talking to the media and even shouting at Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt for recognition. Therefore, in the best interests of the school and safety of your child(ren), I must ask for everyone to please respect the family's privacy and discontinue these practices."
Cooke goes on to point out that he met with Brangelina's security team at the start of the school year and the family agreed to "stagger" Maddox's arrival to avoid a paparazzi confrontation with the other students.
But it seems the constant attention is already having a negative impact on the little tyke. Maddox reacted dramatically when the kindergarten teacher asked everyone in class to bring in a picture of themselves, a source tells the Observer.
"He was terrified," the source says. "He refused. He started crying. Obviously the poor kid has grown up in fear of having his picture taken."
Don't worry, kid. At the rate your parents are hording babies, you'll be lost in the crowd in no time.
