Anne Hathaway Proves Theory That Hot Chicks Dig Losers; Calls Con-Man Ex 'The Love of Her Life'

September 3, 2008

When Anne Hathaway finally gave ex Raffaello Follieri the heave-ho earlier this year, we were so proud we threw a photo-burning party in her honour. (Sure, Hathaway didn't exactly receive an invite -- but a gal's got to get rid of her stacks of old People magazines somehow, doesn't she?) It seemed that Hathaway had at long last come to her senses and realized that shelling out for her "businessman" BF's $37,000/month Manhattan pad was a tad sketch – you know, that and all that business of him being accused of defrauding investors of millions of dollars. And that whole bit about him pretending to have connections to the Vatican? Sounds like someone has read The Da Vinci Code one too many times. What a turn off.

Vanity Fair is breaking some news, however, that has us once again questioning our Anne's judgement. According to a story in the October issue of the mag (teasingly titled "Was Anne Hathaway Conned?") the actress dumped Follieri mere hours before he was hauled away by police on charges of wire fraud and money laundering.

As for how Hathaway pulled the plug on her relationship with Follieri, it doesn't appear that the phrase "it's not you, it's me" was ever uttered. "You were the love of my life," Hathaway told Follieri, said a friend of the actress. "I'll always love you. You know that, baby."

Yeesh. You could have just stopped paying his rent, Annie. That and a two-line text message would've got the job done with more dignity.

In the meantime, Follieri is interned at New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center awaiting trial. At least Hathaway has not yet posted his $21 million US bail.
