If you're in need of a good chuckle, today is your lucky day: Paris Hilton is insisting she isn't the frivolous, vapid socialite everyone thinks she is.
Hee hee hee! Sorry. We'll try to get through this with a straight face, but no promises.
Appearing on British talk show GMTV to promote her latest reality show, Paris Hilton's British Best Friend, the 27-year-old said that the ditsy personality she displayed on The Simple Life is nothing like her true self.
"For five seasons I was stuck doing this character," Hilton said. "It was kind of hard always have to play that character when it's not who I am."
Yes. We've all seen who she really is when she's not on The Simple Life and we're not exactly sure how that's supposed to make us feel better. (Although we did really enjoy the version of her in House of Wax that got killed in a spectacularly brutal way.)
"I just say jokes but they think I'm serious, which I think is funny," Hilton went on. "And I think I kind of play up the image sometimes because – whatever – it's just entertainment."
Doesn't this whole scenario seem kind of familiar? It's reminiscent of Jessica Simpson's Newlyweds days, when she was initially pleased as punch over all the attention she received over her bubble-headed "chicken of the sea" comments – until someone told her that people were laughing at her, not with her. At first, Simpson probably didn't understand what that meant, but once they explained it with diagrams and puppets, she got a little antsy and began giving interviews about how she's actually a genius.
Well, Paris, J. Simp didn't fool us back then, and you're not fooling us now. Believe it or not, starring in Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Hottie and the Nottie isn't really an indicator of intelligence.
