Medium Fails to Detect Bruno

November 18, 2008

Despite being one of the world's biggest movie comedians and the inspiration behind the most obnoxious Halloween costume of 2006 (and 2007, 2008 and probably 2009), Sacha Baron Cohen managed to sneak onto the set of NBC's Medium to stir up some in-character hijinx, reports Entertainment Weekly.

While the greater prank on humanity would be that Medium is in production for its fifth (fifth!) season, Cohen's hooliganism managed to shut down filming of a courtroom scene.

Cohen, who was reportedly in character as Austrian fashion reporter and mesh tank-top enthusiast Bruno, weaseled his way onto the Medium set as an extra and proceeded to act "unruly." According to Entertainment Weekly, Cohen constantly interrupted the tense court scene until security was summoned to remove the actor from the set.

According to reports, nobody clued in until Cohen was being pried from the jury box.

"No one had a clue it was Sacha playing Bruno," a source told EW. "It's amazing he was able to infiltrate the set and pull this off."

Yes. Truly amazing. Because Medium isn't broadcast by the same company that's producing the Bruno movie or anything (Bruno is produced by Universal. Medium, although it is produced by Paramount, is broadcast on NBC, a Universal network).

Video of the ruckus -- which took place Nov. 7 -- has yet to surface and it's still unclear whether the Bruno camp was shooting their own footage or if they plan to use tape shot by the Medium team. In any case, it's hardly the first time Bruno's "journeys through America" have been detected. Cohen has disrupted fashion shows in Milan and Paris and recently turned up at a rally for California's Prop 8.
