TomKat, Ellen Degeneres, Sienna Miller Attend Ledger Memorial

February 4, 2008

Stars flocked to a private memorial for Heath Ledger at the Sony studio lot in Los Angeles on Saturday (Feb. 2), reports People magazine.

Guests included Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who co-starred with Ledger's ex-fiancé Michelle Williams in Dawson's Creek, talk show host Ellen Degeneres, Ledger's Casanova co-star Sienna Miller, A Knight's Tale star Shannyn Sossamon and I'm Not There director Todd Haynes, who reportedly spoke at the noon-hour service.

The star-studded memorial took place just days after Hollywood A-listers rallied together to prevent Entertainment Tonight and The Insider from airing a video depicting the deceased actor at a drug-fueled hotel party. Celebs, including Natalie Portman and Sarah Jessica Parker, reportedly contacted producers of the show personally to plead with them to yank the two-year-old video. A spokesperson for the shows released a statement on Wednesday (Jan. 30), saying they decided to pull the footage "out of respect for Heath Ledger's family."

This weekend's memorial was preceded by a smaller service, which took place a week earlier in Los Angeles and was attended by family members and close friends, including his ex-girlfriend, Naomi Watts, reports People.

Meanwhile, Michelle Williams has broken her silence on Ledger's death.

In a statement released Friday (Feb. 1) through her publicist, the 27-year-old actress said "My heart is broken. Please respect our need to grieve privately."

Williams also spoke of two-year-old daughter Matilda Rose, the child she had with Ledger after the pair fell in love on the set of 2005's Brokeback Mountain.

"I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father," Williams said. "All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him."

Production on Williams' latest movie, Blue Valentine, co-starring Ryan Gosling, was set to begin Feb. 25 but has since been postponed indefinitely.

Australian news outlets are reporting a memorial and burial in Ledger's hometown of Perth are also expected.
