In news that's rocked the celebrity-watching world to its very core, Britney Spears and her paparazzo boytoy, Adnan Ghalib, have split up. And here we thought he might actually be the one! The macaroni to her cheese! Or, at the very least, the padded wall to her straightjacket! Sigh.
Not only did Spears dump Ghalib's ass when she began to suspect he was just using their relationship to advance his celebrity-stalking career (we're not sure what her first clue was – perhaps that they met while he was stalking her?), but reports suggest she notified him of the split by slapping him with a restraining order.
Spears and hanger-on Sam Lufti invited two X17 photographers into her Beverly Hills house around 2 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 20), and during their four-hour conversation, Lufti reportedly showed the snappers a restraining order they’d filed against Ghalib because they wanted him "out of Britney's life."
"Britney asked us to leave the cameras in the car, and she poured some champagne for us. She was very sweet," one of the photographers told X17. "Sam was telling us to not worry about Adnan because they have filed a restraining order against him."
No one appears more surprised by the split than Ghalib himself. In a posting on his paparazzi company's website, he writes "All I can say is that I have not been in contact with Britney since early Friday morning. The reason being, that I have has [sic] to attend a family funeral in Santa Barbara. My phone has been off during this time out of respect for my family. I am only now becoming aware of what is being said. I hope to be back home in Los Angeles soon and to be in contact with Miss Spears."
People magazine reports the L.A.P.D. is "not aware" of any protective orders filed against Ghalib, nor is the L.A. Sheriff's department. Perhaps the restraining order exists only in Spears’ imagination, much like her belief in leprechauns and her comeback chances.
Spears has already put the relationship well behind her. When asked by a photographer yesterday outside Burbank's Millennium Dance Studios if she has a message for Ghalib, she said in a British accent, "I don't know who that is... I have never met him before." She then asked the photographers for the phone number of her next victim another paparazzo.
While Spears was conferring with her best friends/bitter enemies, a homeless man approached and asked, "Britney, help a homeless man out. Let somebody see you do something good."
Spears responded in her faux-Brit brogue, "You are better off being homeless than being me, sir," before telling him she couldn't find her purse.
