Chris Brown Says He 'Ain't a Monster'

May 28, 2009

Chris Brown would like you to know that he "ain't a monster." For one thing, monsters can't create vlogs in Bow Wow's private bowling alley. Nor do they typically hock upcoming albums (Chris Brown's Graffiti, coming to a used CD store near you!). And, certainly, most of them lack the motor skills to properly operate a jet-ski. I'm looking at you, Bigfoot.

But enough disrespect against the monster community, and back to Brown: the 20-year-old pop star broke his silence this week, posting a brief video on website www.justin.tv., in which he seems to comment on the backlash he's weathered since the February incident involving him and former girlfriend Rihanna. There's also some business in there where he plugs a new album and single, but we'll just skip to Brown's vague character defense:

"I just wanna say 'What up?' because I ain't been out there in a minute," says Brown at the beginning of the clip, addressing his low profile as of late.

"We ain't going nowhere. Everybody that's haters, they just been haters. All my real fans, I love you all. I ain't a monster," said Brown.

If Brown's headed anywhere in the next little while, it'll be to meet with his lawyers. The singer previously pleaded not guilty to assault charges stemming from the February incident that left Rihanna bruised and bloodied, and if convicted he could face a maximum of four years in prison. A hearing has been set for later today, though Brown himself is not expected to appear, reports Reuters.

But that's not the end of Brown's legal woes. Photographer Robert Rosen has sued the singer for personal injury stemming from a March incident at an L.A. gym, People reports. Rosen claims it wasn't Chris Brown who, ahem, "Chris Browned" him, but rather the singer's bodyguard. He alleges the bodyguard "picked [him] up by his shorts" and "physically assaulted" him after he took a shot of the R&B star playing basketball. The photographer also claims that he suffered injuries when he fell down a flight of stairs trying to escape.

Brown's laywer, Mark Geragos, has since responded, saying "This is a specious and frivolous lawsuit by one of the paparazzi seeking publicity and a payday. He's done this before and lost." According to CNN, Rosen filed a lawsuit against actor Pierce Brosnan in 2007. "We will vigorously defend against this," said Geragos.
