Pete Doherty Gets Higher than 30,000 Feet; Arrested for Doing Drugs on Plane

June 8, 2009

Since his term in a British prison last April, junkie/British rock star Pete Doherty's name has kept more or less out of the headlines (unless you count stories about his musical output, and we don't) -- until (blarg) now.

The singer better known for his chemical dependencies was arrested after allegedly using drugs onboard a European flight.

According to UK paper The Sun, Doherty, who was en route to Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, was discovered in the airplane rest room "slumped" and in posession of a hypodermic needle.

The BBC reports that upon arrival,  Doherty was charged and fined for using drugs. After paying an undisclosed amount, Doherty was free to go about his business -- which included a set at Switzerland's Neuchatel Open Air festival, followed by a club show in London Saturday night, MTV News reports.

Sober or not, you can't say he's not professional. According to the BBC, this is the first time Doherty has been in trouble with authorities since April 2008.
