Trailer Talk: Whip It!

July 20, 2009

Movie-goers who saw (500) Days of Summer this weekend were not only treated to a quirky, intelligent rom-com (have we mentioned that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is our new pretend boyfriend?), but they also scored the first glimpse of the trailer for Whip It!, the upcoming roller derby flick starring Ellen Page.

In the film, Page plays Bliss Cavendar, an awkward teenager living in a beauty pageant-obsessed small Texan town who unexpectedly finds happiness in an all-girls roller derby league. The film not only marks the long-awaited return of the Juno star, it also features Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat, Juliette Lewis, Kristen Wiig, Marcia Gay Harden, Eve, Ari Graynor (aka the best thing about Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist), and Drew Barrymore, who also produced and directed the film, which hits theatres Oct. 9.

We find the trailer utterly charming, but we've been burned before by good previews for bad movies. What do you think? Did Barrymore, in her directorial debut, whip it good? Leave your thoughts below in the comments section.
