Move over, Octo-mom; soon, you might not be the only famous mother struggling to raise eight children by herself. In a new interview with People magazine, Jon & Kate Plus Eight star Kate Gosselin admits that her marriage is in trouble and may not survive.
Kate Gosselin and her husband, Jon, have presented a united front amid the wave of recent scandals that has washed over the couple. Both have denied cheating allegations (he with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummel; she with bodyguard Steve Neild). But in People's latest cover story, the mother of twins and sextuplets admits her marriage has been in trouble for months.
"I don't know that we're in the same place anymore, that we want the same thing," Kate says, according to an excerpt from the article posted on the magazine's site. "I've been struggling with the question of 'Who is this person?' for a while. I remember where I was the first time I heard [Deanna Hummel's] name. It's one of those things where you can try to make it go away, but there's blaring, red flashing lights."
Though Gosselin says she is determined to fight for her marriage ("I will never give up hope that every member of our family can be absolutely happy again"), she's also accepting the possibility that they might split.
"You can't imagine yourself in a certain position when all this first happens, but you can do it over some months," she tells People. "It's a lot like when I was first pregnant with the babies, and it was pure shock and denial. But over time I imagined six cribs in my house, and six car seats. When your mind is ready to go there, you can accept any number of scenarios."
Meanwhile, Us Weekly continues its assault on the couple. The magazine, which was the first to publish photos of Jon with Hummel, just released a new cover story on Kate's alleged relationship with Neild, the family's bodyguard. In the story, a source claims Jon became suspicious of Kate's relationship with Neild, and threatened to hire a private investigator. Us Weekly also quotes a neighbor who claims Jon sleeps in an apartment above the garage in the Gosselins' new $1.1 million U.S. home.
Kate alluded to Us Weekly's new cover story earlier this week, telling People magazine "the allegations they're making about me are disgusting, unthinkable, unfathomable, and I am horrified."
