Katie Holmes Signs on For New Film. Those Robots Can Do Almost Anything These Days

January 20, 2009

Soon Katie Holmes will soon have a second job to go along with her gig as world’s most recognized robo-wife. The occasionally employed actress has taken a role in independent comedy The Extra Man, Variety reports.

The film will also star Kevin Kline, Paul Dano and John C. Reilly, and will be directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. Based on the Jonathan Ames novel, The Extra Man follows a playwright (played by Kline) who makes ends meet by being an escort for wealthy New York City widows. The writer soon becomes friend and mentor to a younger scribe, played by Dano. No word on what role Holmes will be taking on.

"This is a film for our times, these hilarious characters living on the edge of enormous wealth, scrapping for small pieces of the pie," producer Anthony Bregman told Variety. "I suspect a lot of people will be able to identify nowadays."

While we can only wish to identify with the whole being-paid-to-be-someone’s-companion thing, something tells that Katie may be able to?
