Pete Doherty Falls Off the Wagon, Gets Bloody

October 25, 2006

Courtney Love may want to stop taking credit for getting Pete Doherty clean and sober. The former Hole frontwoman recently claimed responsibility for Doherty's rehab success, but it seems the Babyshambles singer has tumbled off the wagon once again.

The troubled singer topped off an especially violent gig in Rome on Monday night by beating up a photographer, and a bottle of vodka may be to blame.

Photos of the blood-splattered rock star, who had reportedly been swigging from a vodka bottle during the concert, have been splashed across British newspapers this week, reports the BBC.

According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Doherty flew into a rage when an audience member threw an object at the Babyshambles's drummer, forcing him to leave the stage. Doherty reportedly retaliated by smashing his mike stand against the instruments, cutting himself in the process.

But the night didn’t end there. Outside the gig, Doherty allegedly punched an Italian photographer several times before his bandmates were able to pull him away. His spokesperson has released a statement, claiming the photographer started the fight by hitting Doherty with his camera.

"Pete totally denies that he instigated a fight with a photographer," says his rep. "Reports that that the photographer might make an official complaint will certainly interest Pete's lawyers."

For his part, Doherty seems to be taking it all in stride. "We had a bloody good gig and then a good scrap when we got back to the hotel," he said, reports MTV. "All in all a good night."
