Amy Winehouse Returns to England, Looks … Um … Better?

July 14, 2009

Just when we were beginning to forget that Amy Winehouse was far far away, terrorizing the peaceful islanders of St. Lucia with her boozing, boob-flashing and spontaneous Scrabble tourneys, the pop-star was spotted at London's Gatwick Airport, reportedly back in her UK home to stay.

Judging by the photos, Winehouse is looking better than she has in ages (oh, what a difference not being covered in pus and sores makes), appearing well-nourished (at least as much as a bulimic pre-purge) and sporting glossy curls instead of her trademark, ratted-up beehive. (We're honestly a little jealous of her hair. What do you think, Ames: should I go for the hot-oil treatment or just work pina coladas through the ends?)

"She is good. She has been looking after herself," a friend of the singer's told People. "She did a lot of exercise and she has been eating better. Look at her -- she is not what she was."

Nice hair aside, the singer still appears to be blighted with many of the same old problems. Winehouse has spent the bulk of the past eight months on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, and while multiple reports suggest she's returned to England to work on her long in-progress third album, she's also expected back in court in coming weeks for an assault case. (Winehouse pleaded not guilty to charges in March.)

Upon touching down in London, witnesses spotted Winehouse crying -- and hardly out of happiness to be back home.

When The Sun newspaper asked her if she was glad to be back in England, she angrily replied: "I don't give a f*ck."

Ah, there's the Wino we know and love.
