Twilight Event Turns Bloody

November 11, 2008

A Twilight promotion in San Francisco's Stonestown Galleria became a vampire's dream last night when a crowd of approximately 3,000 people got restless, "pushing and prodding" several people and leaving at least one girl bloodied with a broken nose, reports MTV News. Event organizers from U.S. retailer Hot Topic had only planned to let 500 people in to meet Twilight star and tween sex symbol Robert Pattinson. Around 10 a.m. ET, when the angry crowd got even more belligerent and people began to mob the store, the San Francisco police shut down the 6 p.m. event outright.

First-person accounts on the Twilight Lexicon blog claim organizers were vastly unprepared for the meet-and-greet, hiring only one security guard to keep the screaming horde under control.

"Hot Topic and the mall should have organized this better," posted one user. "I mean, come on, only 500 people were going to be allowed. I see why it turned into chaos. Everyone wanted to be part of the 500, including myself!!"

Added another user: "It was completely RIDICULOUS this morning!! I was there at 4 in the morning and signed up on a 'list' that was supposed to let how many people were supposed to get in, but apparently this list wasn't valid. It was completely UNORGANIZED and the Hot Topic people told us they 'weren't prepared for this big of a crowd.'"

A message to all the teenage girls out there: no guy is worth getting trampled by 3,000 people for, even if his hair is as wild as the day is long and you just know that underneath his rough exterior is a sweet, gentle man who really wants to settle down with the right girl.

Sadly, we know you probably won't listen or care because we're out of our teens and therefore are useless and out of touch. Heck, we probably wouldn't have listened, either, when we were your age. You know, back when cars were called "horseless carriages" and doctors thought headaches were demons trying to break out of your skull.
