David Cross Snorted Coke In Front of Obama (Or At Least Made a Joke About it)

October 23, 2009

When we hear about David Cross doing things like taking roles in movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks, and dating a lesser sister of the Travelling Pants (or as he prefers to call her, "fancy Hollywood actress" Amber Tamblyn) there's not much more we can do besides pulling out the old Mr. Show and Arrested Development DVDs and crying "WTF?!" at the heavens.

And then we hear about stuff like the comedian claiming to snort cocaine in front of President Barack Obama and it all kind of seems OK. Because (a) maybe the coke's been to blame for all them slip-ups all along, and (b) he's proven he's still hilarious.

During a show Wednesday night in Washington, D.C., Cross wrapped his stand-up routine with a bit about how he and a friend have an ongoing competition where they out-do each other with "dares and outrageousness."

Cross found himself at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner this year, which -- as per his routine -- he took as a choice opportunity to one-up his pal.

According to a report at Politico.com, Cross said he was sitting with a bunch of the usual (VIP) suspects: former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, "the editor-in-chief of the USA Today." And yeah, he was sitting "super close to the president."

"But it's crazy and there's security, Secret Service is standing there," he said. "I've got photos of all this. ... I'm there and the president is right here and with all these people at the table." So, nothing to do but snort some coke. "Maybe 40 feet from the president of the United States!"

"No way you can ever top that," Cross said he texted his friend (who presumably immediately took up a heroin habit and booked a trip to Vatican City).
