Nanny Scandal Hits New Lowe

April 15, 2008

Rob Lowe’s nanny diaries are proving to be way juicier and more interesting than any box office bombing chick flick starring Scarlett Johansson. Just days after Lowe went on the offensive and claimed a former nanny was trying to blackmail him, the ex-employee in question filed a sexual harassment lawsuit on Monday, claiming the actor frequently exposed himself to her.

Jessica Gibson, 24, worked on and off as a nanny for Lowe and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, for seven years. Among the "vicious laundry list of false terribles" (a delicious term coined by Lowe in a blog rant last week) she outlines in the 18-page court documents, Gibson claims the actor exposed himself, fondled her, placed his hand down her pants and grabbed her butt. She also alleges Sheryl would wander around the house naked and make vulgar comments about their sex life.

Gibson appeared on the Today Show Tuesday with her lawyer, Gloria Allred. When host Meredith Vieira asked Gibson why she kept returning to a place where she felt harassed, the ex-nanny said, "I love the children, I needed the job, and I always thought it would get better -- and I was scared."

"Look what happened," Allred, who did most of the talking, added. "Her worst nightmare came true. She protested the sexual harassment and they came down on her with everything they have. They trashed her reputation, they made false allegations about her, and that is wrong. Maybe they thought she was going to go away and be intimidated, but she is not going to hide. She is not going to go away."

In a statement read on the Today Show, the Lowes' attorney, Stanton "Larry" Stein, said: "Ms. Gibson worked for the Lowes on and off for seven years. She left at least two times, to pursue other jobs, and returned each time asking for more hours. She sent two emails the day after she left, both saying she loved the Lowes and her leaving had nothing to do with them but her heart wasn't into being a nanny anymore. This is totally inconsistent with her latest allegations."

Lowe’s adventures in babysitting became public last Monday, when he blogged on the Huffington Post that "a former employee is demanding my wife, Sheryl, and I pay her 1.5 million dollars by the end of the week." His preemptive strike continued later that day, when he filed lawsuits against Gibson and two other ex-employees, alleging they had breached confidentiality agreements and spread lies about the couple.
