Just when you thought the Owen Wilson saga couldn't get any more twisted, Courtney Love has waded into the fray. The grunge queen/blog abuser is placing blame for Wilson's alleged suicide attempt squarely on the shoulders of her ex, British actor Steve Coogan.
Love claims she tried to warn Wilson to stay from Coogan, his Night at the Museum and Around the World in 80 Days co-star.
"I went through it with Steve," an uncharacteristically coherent Love tells Us Weekly of her 2006 relationship with Coogan. "I was just out of rehab, and he was right there with the drugs. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends ... I hope from the bottom of my heart that Owen stays the hell away from that guy."
Another source tells the gossip rag that Coogan's influence and Wilson's increasing substance abuse were factors in his split from Kate Hudson. The perky pixie reportedly "forbid him from letting Coogan into his house. She knew he was bad."
Wilson's downward spiral since splitting from Hudson in June was apparently so disturbing to his friends that pal Woody Harrelson hosted an informal intervention at his Hawaii home in May, reports Us.
The actor, who is currently recovering in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, has dropped out of the Ben Stiller film Tropic Thunder, which was scheduled to begin shooting next week, reports Variety.
