Ellen DeGeneres Finally Nabs George Clooney. Stalking Works!

January 16, 2009

In news that will give hope to thousands of stalkers around the world (keep that creepy letter-writing campaign going, fellas!), Ellen DeGeneres' unrelenting crusade to get George Clooney on her show has finally succeeded. The ruggedly handsome movie star's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show was filmed this week and is scheduled to air Monday, reports People.

"Have people been informing you every step of the way of what we've done [to get you here]?" DeGeneres asked Clooney during the interview.

"'Informing me' is not really what I would call what my office has been doing. Ah, 'complaining,'" he answered. "They were a little concerned when that marching band came in. … The trombone player hurt someone, as always."

DeGeneres vowed to book Clooney as a guest when her Emmy-winning talk show moved to the same studio lot as the actor's office last year. But despite her best efforts – including leaving gifts at his door, asking Brad Pitt for advice and sending Kate Hudson to Clooney's office – Clooney remained elusive.

So what changed? First, DeGeneres began the new year with revived vigor with her "George is Mine in '09" campaign; then she followed the sage advice of Clooney's former ER castmate Noah Wyle by also booking former Cincinnati Reds players Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan on the show. And it certainly didn't hurt that fans kept stopping the Michael Clayton star on the street to chastise him for ignoring DeGeneres' pleas.

"People do come up to me all the time and say, 'What's wrong with you, man? Why don't you go on Ellen's show?'" Clooney revealed. "I say 'I haven't been in town,' which I haven't been in town for a long time!"

His long-awaited visit is nice, but we're more shocked that there are George Clooney fans who can somehow talk to the dreamboat without trying to make out with him. What's their secret?
