Miley Cyrus Heads to the Big Screen; Hannah Montana Wig Nowhere In Sight

September 17, 2008

Miley Cyrus soon will be showing fans that she’s capable of more than just spitting out cheesy one-liners on Hannah Montana.

The Disney phenomenon is set to star in an untitled film that is being tailor-made for the teen sensation by The Notebook author Nicholas Sparks, reports Variety

Sparks is currently writing an untitled novel and simultaneously working on a screenplay adaptation for the film (talk about multi-tasking) that will be produced by Disney with Cyrus’s mom, Tish, onboard as an executive producer.

Since those “leaked” Myspace pics and racy Vanity Fair photos didn’t do the trick, the 15-year-old met with Disney to discuss broadening her image and transitioning to more adult roles, citing A Walk to Remember as an example of project she’d like to work on.

Sparks met with Cyrus, her family and the producers and pitched them the premise for a novel, the plot of which is being kept under wraps, reports Variety

Cyrus is set to showcase her acting chops rather than her vocal abilities in the film, in the same way A Walk to Remember broke actress Mandy Moore away from her bubblegum pop image.

The author told Variety that his first priority is to produce a quality novel for his readers, which he anticipates will be published by fall 2009.

Sparks also told Variety that Cyrus and her family “were very familiar with the work I’ve done in the past. That played a role in this project coming together."

Don’t do it, Miley! Every movie based on a Sparks novel ends with the main character dying. Remember Moore in A Walk to Remember? Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in The Notebook? Kevin Costner in Message in a Bottle? Even the trailer for Nights in Rodanthe has us already freaked out about Richard Gere’s fate. We’re too fragile to contemplate the loss of our favourite buck-toothed YouTube star (even if it is only fictional).
